Bristol Zoo Visit/Personal Shoot.

These are just a few of a selection of photographs from a recent personal shoot/visit to Bristol Zoo, that I did outside of my current assignment.
The aim of this shoot for me, was to try to capture the animals, insects etc in a seemingly natural environment, which evidently they do not live in and hiding the fact that they don't have their own freedom.

Inspired photograph: Clarence White

On a recent visit to an Exhibition held at the Holburne Museum in Bath, I came across an interesting piece of work by Photographer Clarence White, taken in 1907 called Still Life.

I found this photograph particularly intriguing because of the interesting choice of subject matter, using a crystal ball/glass globe to view the actual object avoiding directly positioning the camera towards it, obstructing the view. This effect creates a misty illusion, which I think reflects on the fact that nothing lasts forever, everything eventually changes, fades or dies - flowers are an obvious subject matter here.

I think this photograph by Clarence White might inspire and influence me to go on and create a series of images similar to his piece of work, using a variety of see-through objects such as a magnifying glass to experiment with different objects or surrounding and exploring the boundaries of interpretations and meanings.

Exhibition at The Holburne Museum in Bath.

Today viewed an exhibition which is held at The Holburne Museum in Bath.
A current exhibition held from 11 February - 7th May 2012 called Art of Arrangement - Photography and the Still Life Tradition.
£6.50/concessions

This stimulating and visually arresting exhibition surveys the many ways in which photographers have explored still life.
Through works by many of the world's great photographers the exhibition explores the rich tradition, symbolic nature and history of still life. With original prints of works as varied as Roger Fenton's seminal still-lifes of the 1860's, Alexander Rodchenko's constructivist abstractions and Phillipe Halsman's famous Dali Atomicius the exhibition shows the many ways in which photographers have responded to the still life tradition and how they have exploited the possibilities of the photographic medium.

WPO Photography Competition

Entered the WPO( World Photography Organization) Competition:
Facebook Monthly Photo Competition April 2012 - Theme - Black and White.

Selected Image - Suitcase
Used high contrast tones to add emphasis on the subject to invite viewers in to consider and start to question what the photograph is trying to portray - suggestive thoughts/questions. What is within the case? Whom does the case belong to?

Outcome of the competition: There are plenty of opportunities out there to show my imagery to gain recognition and this was one of them, even if i did not win - i had the chance to get my photography out there and that is the main challenge i want to face.
