Photographer/Painter:
Jenny Saville

I recently came across this photographer in the book called Vile Bodies: Photography and the crisis of looking (By Chris Townsend) I included her work in my research and inspiration for my final major project - on exploration of the body. I found her work really interesting and thought her exploration of the body to represent people's perceptions of their own bodies is an extreme problem of todays society. She did a photographic series where she collaborated with fashion photography Glenn Luchfordusing her body to document her friend's obsession to lose weight; her friend would draw lines on areas of the body she wanted to change and lose weight so her body fell onto the lines (the same as post cosmetic surgery markings)

Also her self-portraiture paintings, she would enlarge areas of her body to reflect the struggles with mind and our perceptions of the body, followed by obsession and the pressure from the controlling media. We unfortunately live in an era where the body is the centre of everything and we will never be happy with our bodies until perhaps its too late; abused bodies from self destruction.
